Globus accelerates the transfer and sharing of data

The Structural Biology Group at Florida State University routinely transfers hundreds of GBs of single crystal x-ray crystallography data from a national laboratory to their local storage. This proved challenging. It was costly, time consuming and there were delays in making the data available. Transporting the hard disks took time, and sometimes the hard disks would fail, which would result in further delays. They deployed Globus, and as a result they experienced time and cost savings. No longer would they have to wait for days to give the group access to the data.

Data would be transferred using Globus, and once received, the group could begin their local data processing, refinement, and other associated activities needed to solve the structures of the biological macromolecules.
